The utfcheck utility reads in ASCII or UTF-8 text files and analyzes them, printing diagnostic messages for uncommon characters that it reads.

Installing utfcheck
To install the utfcheck package on a system with a Unix-style command line interface (GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, Cygwin, etc.), type these commands in a terminal window:
./configure make make check make install make clean
The "make check
" command will run tests
using sample text files that are in the "test
"
directory.
The "make install
" command might need to be run as
"sudo make install
" on your system. By default,
the utfcheck
program will be installed in
"/usr/local/bin
"
and the man (manual) page will be installed in
"/usr/local/share/man/man1
".
